Now has GPS in the following format N47º37'-W2º55'23 Le Guide National was for a long time the best French Aires guide available due to its simple layout. It lost its position with the publication of the English version All the Aires France with its 1600 listed Aires, 1300 of which are inspected and photographed with GPS coordinates taken on site. Aires listed in Le Guide National the exact figures. 1396 municipal Aires 288 private Aires (supermarkets, dealers, etc) 86 motorway Aires (never stop overnight on these) 477 campsites (a price is quoted for servicing ‘good luck’) 152 have colour photos. Simple to use Overview maps at the rear of the guide show the locations of the aires in France. A number in a colour-coded box is placed roughly where each aire is located, the colour identifies the type of Aire: aire de services municipal, aire in or by a campsite, private aires sometimes motorhome dealers, farms, or supermarkets and some on the auto-routes. The aires numbered on the maps are listed in the book from 1 to 2247 and split into regions. At the back of the Aires guide an alphabetical index of the aires is listed by town name providing their reference numbers, colour codes, page and department numbers.
The aires are described completely in writing in French and have brief directions normally with the road name but say by the Mairie or some other landmark. This brief description is the same in the Guide official Aires de Services Camping-car and Camperstop Europe only it is in English in Camperstop. There are details of opening times, cost if any number of spaces, services provided and a telephone number normally the Mairie or campsite. There are thumbnail maps of France at the beginning of each region that show their location, these stand out well when thumbing through. French postcodes don’t really help because they refer to the whole town not streets as in England.
