New for 2010 both Caravan Club Europe guides provide GPS coordinates for many of the campsites listed. The coordinates are printed in the Long and Lat format 43.69018, 7.15643.
Directions
As with all caravan club books the directions are comprehensive but you have to learn the 187 abbreviations used to convey all aspects of the campsite descriptions and directions.
Useful Information
The additional information in the Caravan Club Europe guides contains all the advice you need on mountain passes, required equipment, speed limits, fuel prices and signs. At the start of each country more specific information is provided. At the rear of each country, maps detail the campsite locations, indicating which ones are open all year.
How dose it compare?
Caravan Europe 2, as a single compendium, lists more caravan sites in Germany Italy, Greece the Baltic, and Scandinavia than any other paper campsite guide written in English that we know of. However, it does not list as many campsites as the ACSI DVD. Caravan Club Europe users nominate and provide the details of the campsites including costs, opening times, facilities, hook up amperage, size of site, dogs welcome, shade, levels, local attractions, ambiance, etc and excellent directions. The submissions can be as old as 2006. The touring information in the front of the guide is excellent and should not be overlooked. It covers all the necessary subjects of road law but also a lot of other useful and need to know information about, pets, ferries, insurance, money, tolls, mountain pass suitability, and country specific information. Maps at the back of the books show the locations of campsites against the local town and are colour coded red for those open all year.

The Caravan Club Europe guides are ideal for the independent traveller wanting a good cross section of campsites throughout Europe and are extremely helpful when travelling out of season. In short these are the best paper campsite guides, we used them extensively when we were full timing and despite the price of £15.99 are worth every penny. |
