Guide Officiel Aires de Services Camping Car 2010
This Guide is written in French.
This is the best known of the French aires guides and comes with a foldout map. Please note the reader is expected to know the regions and departments of France but these are all numbered and named. It claims “avec toutes les aires” (with all the aires) 7000 etapes (stops). Most of the listings are not true Aires de Services. There are 915 community stopovers and a further 168 outside campsites giving a total of 1083 aires in France. There are also 141 private Aires, being supermarkets, restaurants garages and other commercial enterprises.

Our own publication All The Aires France lists 1600 true Aires 1300 of these have been inspected. Le Guide Officiel Aires de Services also lists 1679 campsites both municipal and private. 350 daytime parking areas are identified in French towns, in reality finding parking in France is not at all difficult. 1120 France Passion sites are also listed, but you are required to be a member see Find out about France Passion here . Information provided for the French aires includes the services offered: number of places, opening times, costs if any, water, toilet dump, electric and symbols show local activities and shops etc. The localisation (location) is given e.g. place du camp-de-foire, which most likely will be signed through the village. Acces (directions) are given last and normally say; from (town name) on the (road name and or number) then the place to drive to or the road to turn onto. The alphabetical index at the front lists the aires and other listings under the local town name. A map reference is given e.g. F8 and the department number. The departments are numbered 1-89 in sequence; department numbers and names are printed at the top of each page. Town names are listed alphabetical in each department. The foldout map is 80cm square. The mapping is adequate for the planning task but should not be used for navigation. The aires, campsites and France Passion sites are marked by spots in 4 colours. Town names are located close by, in crowded areas this makes it unclear. Stops and campsites in other countries. Other countries include the following but these have only been listed with very brief information. Switzerland 109 about half appear to be campsites. Portugal 69 mixture of Parque de campismo and Orbitur campsites. Germany 367 mixed entries are briefly listing stelleplatz stopovers/dumps) and parking areas. Belgium 67 brief entries, mostly Aires are listed. Croatia 36 campsites are listed. Spain 343 campsites are briefly listed. Better and more comprehensive information is given in both Camperstop and Bord Atlas, see Aires and Stopovers Guides 1195 stopovers are listed in Italy including 44 aires and Bornes in Sardinia. They are a mixture of municipal and commercial Aires and service points, campsites and farms. Very brief directions and details are given in French, typically 10-15 words. See this aires guide for Italy . Who Should Buy This Guide? I am not sure, All The Aires France is far more comprehensive for France, providing more information and its in English. Camperstop and Bord Atlas are far more comprehensive for the other countries, and Guida Camper the Italian map and Stopovers guide is 500% better for Italy.
