It is French law that vehicles towing a trailer or caravan have speed stickers on the rear of the vehicle being towed. The 80 sticker must be applied to the back of the caravan or trailer in the bottom left-hand corner, with the 90 sticker either placed above or to its right. These stickers are self-adhesive and laminated for durability.
The regulation stipulates that vehicles towing a caravan or trailer in France are required to drive at the lower speed limits of:
- 80 km/h on single carriageways
- 90 km/h on dual carriageways/motorways
While the regulation strictly applies only to resident vehicles, not all local officials will be aware of this and it is better to fit them and save yourself paying a fine or having to argue with the police.
