Description

Listing 245 inspected and objectively reviewed stopovers, this is the best and most up to date campsite guide available for Morocco. It is written in French to cater for the vast number of French visitors to Morocco each year. So although it may take a little more effort to use, you can have faith in the quality of the information.

This guide is written in French, but does have an English key for 82 of the most common phrases used in the campsite descriptions.

Why go camping in Morocco?

Maroc's climate makes it a great camping destination all year round. And the open roads mean adventurers of all kinds are able to explore the dramatic and rugged landscapes, whether they travel by bicycle, motorcycle, car, 4x4, camper or motorhome. And, although Morocco is only an hour by ferry from Spain, you will feel like you have been transported through time to a truly foreign land, full of mystery and exciting things to be discovered.

How to use Campings du Maroc

The guide is broken up into 10 colour-coded regions, with an overview map on page 89. The pages of each section are colour-coded for easy reference and there is a regional overview map at the front of each section showing the campsite locations. After the overview map, there is a helpful table which lists the campsite locations alphabetically by town name, including their categorisation from both the current and previous editions and their page number. Those with a (N) after the campsite name are new additions.

At the beginning of the guide there is an 80-page introduction, covering everything from practical and legal considerations before you depart, the seasonal temperatures in the different regions of Morocco, useful information about the people and their customs, the accessibility of LPG/GPL, electricity and drinking water and the different kinds of stopovers you will encounter. Unfortunately the introduction is written only in French, but translation apps and other online resources will quickly help you make use of the information.

Know where you're going and what to expect when you get there

The campsites are categorised using the translated terms in the English key at the front of the guide. They range from Coup de coeur (One of our favourites) to Hors categorie (Unclassifiable) or Faux Camping (fake/bogus campsites), so you will definitely know what to expect before you get there.

Each entry provides: GPS coordinates in 34°46.366'N -05°32.707'W format, brief directions from the nearest main road, contact information including the owner's name, telephone number, email and website, a brief description of the camping facilities, including how much shade is available, prices in dh (Moroccan dirham), available amenities, information on waste disposal, drinking water and toilet facilities, as well as a judgement on their general upkeep (translated in the English key), a critical description of the campsite and finally the campsite's categorisation (translated in the English key).

The campsite listings are sometimes preceded by descriptions of the local area and information on things to do and see nearby, including tourist and historical sites, beaches, and fishing spots. There are also GPS coordinates and addresses for nearby supermarkets, consulates, medical professionals, and day parking areas.
