Description

Currently out of stock until reprinted

This motorhome specific road atlas from Michelin maps more than 1200 French campsites and more than 800 French motorhome Aires on the maps. In addition 150 motorway aires on autoroutes with camper service areas are shown on the map pages. The excellent Michelin mapping scale is 1:250 000 (1 inch=4 miles, 1cm=2.5km), which is the same mapping used in the rugged laminated pages Michelin map. PLEASE NOTE: This atlas is NOT laminated, it is a standard paper atlas.

Written in French with an English key to the mapping symbols. The campsite and Aire symbols are not translated into English, but are easy to understand.

The French campsites and Aires are listed in separate, colour-coded indexes at the back of the road atlas. On the mapping each campsite or motorhome stopover is identified either with a purple box with the motorhome symbol (Aire) or a green box with the campsite symbol (Campsite).

How does it compare with All the Aires France?

This camper atlas does not replace the need for a motorhome stopover guide for France. All the Aires France lists 3562 French Aires, compared to just 800 listed in this atlas. Each motorhome parking and service site in our guide has colour photos, GPS coordinates, a detailed description of the site, its surroundings and the available facilities with prices. See our Comparison of Vicarious Media Mapping & Aires entries to Michelin Camping Car Atlas.

How does it compare with Every Campsite in France?

This camping car atlas does not replace the need for a motorhome camping guide for France. Every Campsite in France (Le Guide Officiel Camping et Caravaning) lists 9300 French campsites, compared to just 1200 listed in this atlas. Included in the 1200 listings are 223 French municipal campsites versus 1711 camping municipal sites detailed in Every Campsite in France.

What facilities are available at French campsites and Aires?

Within each green or purple box, there are six smaller boxes. These represent the facilities symbols identified at the top left and right of each double page spread. When the box is filled in in yellow, that facility is available at that stopover or campground. For example, the Aire at Calais has all but the bottom left box filled in in yellow. That means that Aire has water, grey water disposal, toilet (black) waste disposal, motorhome parking and WiFi. It does not have electric hook-up as that box is not filled in.

Underneath the yellow boxes, there are two numbers: the first is the department number, and the second is the entry number. If you go to the purple and green indexes at the back, you will find these numbers duplicated against the entry information. The listings are organised first numerically by department number, then by entry number. For example, Aire de Calais is in department 62 and is entry 10 and the information can be found on page 394, after the listings for department 61 and before those for department 63.

What French Aires information is included?

The information listed is very brief and, in some instances, incomplete. See our Comparison of Vicarious Media Mapping & Aires entries to Michelin Camping Car Atlas.

Each camperstop listing includes: the name of the Aire, the town name (in bold), street address, telephone number, website, opening dates (permanent or ouverture permanente is open all year), service point type, service facilities provided (symbols) and price, extra services are listed below this with their prices, the number of spaces, time limit, payment type (jeton is token and the strange CB symbol means credit card), additional facilities like toilets and laundry are listed with symbols and finally the GPS coordinates in format: E 1.84347 N 50.96586.

What French campsite information is included?

Each campsite listing includes: the name of the campsite, the campsite's Michelin rating (from 1-5 tents; black tents are simple sites, red tents are sites in particularly nice locations or with a variety of facilities), the town name (in bold), street address, telephone number, website, opening dates (permanent or ouverture permanente is open all year), service point type (note: no service facilities symbols or prices are provided for campsite listings), tarif and what it covers (i.e. 2 people, a vehicle and a pitch), extra services (such as electricity) with their prices, payment type (the strange CB symbol means credit card), additional facilities like onsite restaurant, toilets and laundry are listed with symbols and finally the GPS coordinates in format: E 1.84347 N 50.96586.

Travelling to France?

Although this atlas has good mapping and useful road information for motorhome and campervan drivers, the level of Aires information provided pales in comparison to All the Aires France or France Passion and we would not recommend you travel with this camping car atlas alone. Equally, the campsite information provided is very basic and the number of campsites listed in Every Campsite in France is far greater. This atlas is perfect for anyone who wants a decent road atlas with additional backup campsite and Aires information at very little extra cost.
