The AA's 2017 Caravan and Camping Guide is excellent value for money with more than 830 campsites selected and graded by the AA. Non-club members will find this guide invaluable as almost all of the sites listed are independent. Quick reference guides throughout allow you to find sites offering what you want, where you want.

The 49th edition of this UK campsite guide details over 830 camping parks that are suitable for short breaks or longer stays and for all campers, whether you travel with a tent, caravan, campervan or motorhome or prefer to hire a caravan, lodge or glamping pod.

Quick reference lists make quick work of finding the perfect pitch

The AA inspectors have even provided a quick reference list of the best campsites for everything from stunning views to eco-friendly practices to top quality toilets, making it easy to find a campsite that provides that something extra special. The guide covers the whole of the UK, from John O'Groats to Land's End and from the Shetland Islands to the Channel Islands, so you're sure to find somewhere fantastic to park up or pitch your tent.

The quick reference lists include: 5 Pennant parks, Gold Pennant parks (those scoring 90% and above), Green Pennant parks (specialising in glamping), Holiday Centres and Adults Only parks. A glamping list at the back is a new addition for this year.

AA quality guarantee

Two AA ratings are given for each site: a pennant score (1-5) and a percentage score (50-100%). The first denotes what pennant level the site has achieved and the second gives them a score in comparison with other sites of that standard. For example, a site which is listed as 3 pennants with 90% tells you that it has all the facilities of a 3 pennant park and that the quality of those facilities is as good or better than 90% of the other parks which have been awarded 3 pennants.

How does the AA Caravan and Camping Guide work?

The campground entries are laid out by country and then alphabetically by county. Within the county listings the sites are listed, again alphabetically, by town name. Each town name is accompanied by a map number and grid reference which refers users to the atlas mapping at the back of the guide. The guide also suggests a few places of interest in the nearby area with contact details.

Each entry includes contact details with address and postcode. GPS coordinates are not provided, but directions from the nearest main road are.

The description follows, including useful information about public transport, footpaths and beach access. Following this are the size of the site, the number of pitches and the types of pitches available.

Opening dates and arrival and departure times are given, followed by prices and symbols relating facilities available onsite or within 3 miles. A key to the symbols is handily printed at the bottom of each page, so there is no flipping back and forth to decipher the facilities available at a given campsite. They are also provided in slightly larger text on page 9.

Further information is provided where necessary as well as nearby AA Pubs and Restaurants. Some sites also have colour photographs.
