Description

If you are planning a tour of Scandinavia with a caravan, tent or motorhome, then this is a must-have guide. Each country's motorhome club has provided details of campsites, farm stopovers, service points, overnight parking and marinas, which have been put together in this guide.

This guide is NOT written in English

This A4, magazine-style guide is produced by Nordic Motor Caravan (NMC), which represents motorhome owners from Scandinavia: Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Estonia. The guide is the brainchild of the Danish motorhome club DACF (Dansk AutoCamper Forening) and the majority of the guide is filled with entries for Denmark and Sweden. The motorhome clubs from Norway and Finland have provided the motorhome stopovers for each of their countries. The Swedish Aires and campsites have been provided by the Motor Home Club of Sweden.  Each country's section is written in the country's native language.

Countries covered:

715 Entries for Norway
273 Entries for Finland
494 Entries for Denmark, comprised of:
  • 64 sanitary stopovers
  • 178 farm sites
  • 81 near a marina
  • 28 Aires stopovers
  • 106 private places
  • 38 camping sites

  • 668 Entries for Sweden, comprised of:
  • 220 Aires stopovers
  • 392 parking sites
  • 93 nature sites
  • 52 camping sites
  • 170 near water
  • 137 near a marina
  • 16 rastplats (resting place)

  • English Key

The guide is written in several languages, the Denmark entries are in Danish, Norway in Norwegian, and Sweden and Finland in Swedish and Finnish respectively. Thankfully, a foldout key of symbols in English is provided. These symbols are used throughout the guide and they convey the site information.

If you would prefer an English-language guide, Camperstop Europe is written in English and includes sites in Scandinavia and Estonia, but the quality and amount of information is nowhere near as comprehensive as the Nordic Camper.

    Denmark Motorhoming, Caravanning and Camping

This is a great stopover and campsite guide for Denmark. The number of each type of stopover is broken down above. Many of the entries for Denmark have small colour pictures of the sites. There are 8 sections for Denmark with a map at the start of each section showing the locations of the stopovers. The address for each entry has been provided and GPS coordinates are given in the following format: N55°32'29'' E9°14'59''. The guide also features an overview map of 50 motorway stops and 6 LPG stations.

Caravans can use all the campsites in Scandinavia and the 256 farm stopovers in Denmark; they are similar to UK CL and CS farm sites.

    Finland Motorhoming, Caravanning and Camping

The introduction says that it lists nearly all the campsites in Finland, listing 194 campsites from Helsinki to Lapland, in comparison with Caravan and Motorhome Club Europe, which lists only 37 camping sites. A few campsites have GPS coordinates in the text, but addresses are provided for each listing. 33 ABC fuel stations with a sanitary point for motorhomes and caravans have been listed. GPS coordinates have been provided for the fuel stations in the following format: P=6733999.0 I=3256895.0. There are reasonably sized photos for all listings. The entries have been provided by Autocaravan Finland ry. There are 10 maps in the Finland section showing the locations of the entries. These maps are very good and almost navigable for main routes, but not good enough to show exact locations. For more information on things to do and see in Finland, see our Marco Polo Finland pocket travel guide.

    Norway Motorhoming, Caravanning and Camping

The Norwegian stopovers have been provided by Norsk Bobilforening motorhome club. There is 1 overview map showing the sections of Norway. 104 of the Norway stopover areas listed have photos, but none of the listed campsite entries do. Campsites do not have GPS coordinates, but addresses are provided for most of the listings. Only 23 of the listings are north of Trondheim. For more information on things to do and see in Norway, have a look at our Marco Polo Norway pocket travel guide.

    Sweden Motorhoming, Caravanning and Camping

The Swedish section of this motorhome, caravan and camping guide has excellent information provided by the Motor Home Club of Sweden (www.mhcs.nu). An index of town names is at the start of the guide. There are 21 A4 maps showing the stopovers, each map is placed at the start of a section. All the Swedish entries have small photos and GPS coordinates. In the Swedish section, the symbol use can be a little confusing as multiple symbols are used for the same entry.

Estonia and the Baltic Sea Motorhoming, Caravanning and Camping

There are 27 campsites listed for countries along the Baltic Sea coast. 21 in Estonia, 2 in Latvia, 2 in Lithuania and 2 in Poland. Normal details are provided and most have GPS coordinates.
