Description

I first found out about this type of tyre repair on a Bank Holiday in Spain when I eventually found a open tyre bay. The fitter did the puncture repair without removing the wheel or deflating the tyre and was finished in less than five minutes.

This type of puncture repair is not legal in the UK because the tyre has to be removed and inspected and that is why it is sold as a temporary off road repair kit for tractors and plant. That said, I have carried this type of puncture repair kit for years in my motorhome and used it on two occasions when I could not safely make it to a tyre bay.

How to fix a puncture with tyre plug worms

  1. Locate puncture and remove nail, screw, etc. Take note of the angle through the tyre.
  2. Apply rubber solution to reamer tool and push into the tyre through the puncture hole and work back and forth until the tool moves freely.
  3. Thread a repair worm half way through the insert needle and fold back toward the handle.
  4. Apply a little rubber solution to the needle and worm to act as lubrication (not on supplied instructions). Then push into the puncture hole leaving 1-2cm of worm outside, which will be cut off. Before removing tool, quarter turn and pull out slowly.
  5. Cut of worm tails as close to the tyre as possible.
