Help Us Shape the 20th Anniversary Edition of Go Motorhoming Europe

This page exists for one reason, to gather community input for the reprint of 20th Anniversary Edition of Go Motorhoming Europe. We printed just 200 copies so that we can help all of the newbies together.

For twenty years the book has evolved because of real travellers; people who spotted changes, solved problems, refined techniques, and quietly improved things for everyone who followed. If you have ever travelled with the book on your dashboard or tucked beside your maps, you are part of that story.

We would love this edition to be shaped the same way.

What would help most

We are inviting contributions that directly strengthen or improve the existing content of the current edition, such as:

• Corrections or updates to laws, rules, or practical information
• Short real-world experiences that add depth to a section
• Tips and tricks that make life on the road easier
• Suggestions for additional content that would improve a specific chapter
• Useful photos that illustrate a point or could replace an existing image
• Practical “how-to” images, for example equipment setups or techniques

What we are not collecting here

To keep this focused and manageable, we are not looking for campsite recommendations, route suggestions, lists of aires, general travel debates, or product reviews. Reviews of this book are best placed on the book’s product page

How to contribute

Please add your comments directly below. Start comment with page number.

If you would like to share photos, or prefer to send detailed feedback privately, please email us at aires@vicariousbooks.co.uk If your comments relate to a specific page or section, do mention it so we can place your contribution accurately.

We cannot travel as extensively as we once did, so your lived experience across Europe makes a genuine difference. Every practical insight helps keep the book accurate, relevant, and grounded in real motorhoming.

Page 79, navigation and GPS units. We have a Garmin 780 Camper GPS unit (Superseded by the 795 https://amzn.to/4beXctK). This model allows you to enter the height, width and length of your motorhome so that it will never take you on narrow streets or roads, and never under bridges which do not have sufficient height clearance. It also comes with the CamperContact app for free.
When you get close to your destination you can select the aire you wish to stay in and it will bring you safely there. I thoroughly recommend it.
You can also choose to deselect motorways, so it won’t try to take you off your direct rural route to bring you to a motorway.
You should do a map update your GPS unit a day or two before you leave so that you have the latest map data. (I forgot to update mine last August and ended up squeezing past a van on a narrow street in France, only to find that it had been made into a one-way street. Reversing out was extremely unnerving!

Update/correction Example:

Chapter 5, page 107
ETIAS: This will not be rolled out until late 2026, and then will be voluntary for 6 months! You will not need to apply for a ETIAS visa until some time in 2027.
