Where are the best seaside campsites in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset? Sea View Camping West Country ISBN:978191066456 shows and tells you about all 81 coastal camp grounds with sea views. Many of the holiday sites have self-catering holiday lodges so you can pitch up and enjoy your holiday.

How many campsites in the west country?

  • 75 inspected camping and caravan parks around the south west coast
  • 60 camping spots directly on or within 0.5 miles of the Coast Path or other footpaths
  • 50 holiday parks directly on or within 1 mile of a beach
  • 47 campsites with alternative accommodation from yurts to vintage caravans to glamping pods
  • 68 dog-friendly camp sites
  • 43 campgrounds suitable for large motorhomes, caravans or RVs

Campsites near the South West Coast Path are plentiful making this guide the perfect companion for walking enthusiasts. Away from the coast, the surrounding countryside has a spider’s web of footpaths which weave their way through stunning landscapes, national parks, past historical tin mines and fabled castles. So whether you’re hiking the full coast path, exploring Exmoor, visiting the Lizard Peninsula or just fancy a ramble up a hill to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, this guide will tell you where you can put your feet up and watch the sunset at the end of the day.

If you enjoy messing about in the water this guide tells you how to access the nearest beach as well as the distance to the nearest slipway. Some campsites directly overlook fabulous harbours where you can watch the comings and goings of fishing boats, pleasure boats and famous regattas. Several campsites are just a short walk from bustling towns where excellent charter fishing and deep sea angling trips can be organised. If surfing appeals, then stay at one of the hip, cool campsites that offer surf hire and are just moments from a surf beach.

If it's wild camping you're after, there are dozens of small, intimate campsites littered across the farms and lush pastures of the west country, which offer basic campsite facilities usually accompanied by stunning sea views. Some of the beautiful beachside campsites are practically on the water, have their own beach and offer plenty of water sports and beach fun.

Users of RVs and 5th wheels should find it easy to navigate the beautiful west country coast as 43 camping parks accept large vehicles and our directions detail the easiest route even for large vehicles, avoiding those narrow country lanes. Sea View caters for glampers too as 47 camping and caravan parks have rentable accommodation, like yurts, static caravans, tipis, B&Bs, hostels, hotels and camping pods.

How does Sea View work?

Chris and Meli, the directors of Vicarious Books Media, and photographer Tania Hoser inspected each camping park and its facilities. This guide, like all Vicarious guides, gives you all the information you need to choose the right campsite for you.

The map at the front of the entries lists the camping parks numerically starting with 1 at Weston Super Mare on the Bristol Channel, moving anticlockwise around the Cornish coast and ending at Lymington on the Solent opposite the Isle of Wight. The entries are listed in map number order at the front of the guide and in alphabetical order in the index at the back of the guide.

Each entry has an image of the sea view from the campsite or holiday park. Following that is a written description of the sea view and details of the layout of the campsite and what sort of ground the different pitches are on (i.e. hardstanding, grass, gravel, etc). Also described are points of interest, amenities in the local area and the ease of beach access from the site. The symbols complement this information by telling you how large the site is (number of acres) and how many pitches there are, whether there is electricity and what amperage it is (where known) and lastly whether there are level or hardstanding areas.

Typical campsite symbols highlight what facilities are on site. For example, toilets, designated disabled toilets, showers, family bathrooms, dishwashing areas, washing machines and waste water and toilet waste disposal points. Also given are symbols denoting when slipways, pubs, shops, swimming pools, children's play areas and walking/cycling trails are located on or near the campsite (distances are given where appropriate in the information underneath the symbols).

Each campsite is priced according to our sliding scale from £-££££. Prices were determined using the price for two people in a motorhome with electricity during August. The symbols also detail whether the campsite allows dogs, whether it's adult only, members only, is a CL (Certificated Location) or CS (Certificated Site) and whether the site has an internet point or WiFi.

At the bottom of each entry clear directions are given as well as GPS coordinates taken at the holiday park entrance. These directions should be suitable for all vehicles and are written in clear, easy to understand language with signs and landmarks noted. For walkers, hikers and cyclists, the OS grid references are also given. Lastly, the opening dates of the campsite are written at the bottom of each entry.
