Where are the best Aires in the Spanish Med, the Algarve and near Santander?
Wouldn't it be great if you knew someone who had been to every Aire in Spain and Portugal. You could ask them, what are the best stopovers and which should I avoid? What shops are nearby and is there anything interesting to see? You probably have a thousand other questions to ask us so, buy the book, put the kettle on and we will show and tell you everything you want and need to know.
How many Aires in Spain and Portugal?
This edition was published in September 2017 and details 636 motorhome and campervan stopovers in Spain and Portugal. More than 400 were inspected during 2017 by Meli and Chris, the editors of this guide and directors of Vicarious Media. They drove all over inspecting new Aires and reinspecting stops from previous editions. 97% of the remaining Aires were last inspected in 2015 or 2016 and just 6 were inspected prior to that.

How does this motorhome stopover guidebook work?
All the Aires Spain and Portugal is an A5 paperback book with 384 full colour pages and a durable, laminated cover. The cover has foldouts front and rear, these can be used to mark pages but also have a key to the symbols in six languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French and German. For ease of use, mapping on the inside covers also shows the locations of the Aires across both countries.
181 Aires are listed in the Portuguese Aires section.
455 Aires are listed in the Spanish Aires section.
Each inspected Aire has three accompanying colour photos, concise directions with road names, numbers and postcodes, and GPS coordinates (POIs) in format: N51°04.798' E001°08.331' taken on site. To assist you in choosing the right Aire, service points and parking areas are described, and there are comments about desirability and local amenities including information on: distances to nearby towns, shops and restaurants, green spaces for exercising dogs and children, opportunities for fishing, walking, cycling, and local places of interest.
Open all year campsites
There are 90 open all year campsites listed for Spain and 19 listed for Portugal, almost all of which are along the Mediterranean coast or in the Algarve. The campsite section is not meant to be a definitive list of campsites in either country, nor have they been inspected. It is a list of campsites Vicarious Media customers regularly stay at during the winter months.
200 LPG/GLP Autogas stations in Spain
This section is going to be invaluable to anyone with refillable gas tanks such as Gaslow.
114 LPG/GPL Autogas stations in Portugal
Thankfully LPG is widely available at fuel stations in Portugal. We have provided full details for 114 stations, which is enough to get by with, but we look forward to receiving details of new LPG stations from users of this guide.
All the Aires Locator Map
One copy of the fold out planning map is included with this guidebook, additional copies of the locator map are available to order separately.
A note from Chris and Meli
"We have been touring Spain and Portugal since 2003, when there were no municipal Aires in Spain or Portugal. Since then, we have witnessed rapid growth in the Area Service AC network. During the same period, local and camper van tourists from all over Europe have started visiting in ever increasing numbers, all year around. Thankfully visiting overcrowded Aires is unnecessary when you have been pre-warned and know about better night halts nearby. When you feel like a break from the popular locations we encourage you off the beaten trail in the descriptions of nice Aires in interesting locations. We are confident that armed with our knowledge you will be able to make the most of your Iberian tour with minimum effort. We hope to see you on the road soon." - Chris and Meli
Spain's road network is continually improving, so an up to date road atlas for Spain and Portugal is a must. And don't leave home without the ACSI Camping Card, which will save you up to 50% at hundreds of Spanish and Portuguese campsites.
Regional guidebooks are useful additions for anyone travelling to Spain and Portugal, providing further cultural, historical and social information for the Algarve, Andalucia, Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol.
